Global Citizen and ACNC – Public Benevolent Institution Decision

Wednesday 22 September 2021

The AAT recently determined that a charity can be a public benevolent institution (with a purpose of relieving poverty) where that charity pursues its purpose by way of a holistic range of education, advocacy and lobbying activities designed to elicit financial commitments and policy changes from governments and philanthropists. This represents a large shift from the current practice. Speakers included:

  • Jennifer Batrouney AM QC, Victorian Bar
  • Angela Lee, Victorian Bar
  • Myles McGregor-Lowndes, QUT
  • Murray Baird
  • Alex Milner, Milner + Huang
  • Professor Matthew Harding, The University of Melbourne (Chair)
